"I never told my ambitions and efforts and failures to anyone. I listened unmoved to the sneers and ridicule of various relatives who thought my scribbling rank folly and waste of time. That never disturbed me at all. Down, deep down, under all discouragement and rebuff I knew I would arrive someday." - Lucy Maud Montgomery

Altered Images - Love To Stay (1983)

Altered Images had so many beautiful songs. I'm in love with pretty much anything they did. ("I Could Be Happy", "See Those Eyes", "Pinky Blue", "Don't Talk to Me About Love", just to mention a few....)

Family Fodder - Savoir Faire (1980)

Stevie Wonder - Living For The City (1973)

Dear Granchildren,

Once upon a time there was no such thing as autotune. A performer had to sing a song live using his own voice. I'd ask you to go find the word 'talent' in the dictionary, but sadly, it's no longer there.

Love,
Nana Cristina

30th Birthday Bash

It's my 30th birthday today!!!

Don't be scared by Montezuma here. There was no Revenge. He was just showing me his dagger. He parties like craaaaaazy. You never know with these Aztec. Squeezing monkeys, leaving all kinds of macaw feathers all over the place and shit.

The Monochrome Set - Eine Symphonie Des Grauens (1979)

This song is absolutely perfect. Just discovered it. And in such a random way, too.

In the year 2000...

... this blog will be nothing but a collection of broken YouTube links.

But then again...

...so will the rest of the Internet.

The Lazy Lab

I did an little experiment in April. I didn't post a single thing all month long and got more visitors than most of the months prior. Well, actually I was busy doing other things, so I didn't have time to post, and by the middle of the month I decided, what the heck, nobody seems to mind.

And it was pretty funny.

So... the less I do, the more attention I get? I like that theory!

But I'm back, posting more goodies. =]

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground (1989)

A song that captures who I was, who I am and who I will be.

This is me.

One of the greatest songs ever.

Although THIS is my favorite version:

Queen - Keep Yourself Alive (1981)

This is a great live version of one of my favorite Queen songs. I think the song was released in 1973, but don't quote me on that. It's 2am.

I don't need to explain how perfect each member is in this version, but there's always something so special about John Deacon. He is so quiet and understated, wearing simply a t-shirt and jeans. And this massive bass sound that comes from this seemingly shy man. I find his simplicity very sexy. (You can see him in his own little world at around 2:30 - 2:40. While Freddie is sexying it up & humping the microphone, and Brian is shredding that guitar, John is just standing there thinking "I've clocked in. I'm doing my job. The weather's nice tonight. I think I'll have tea, later...")

Judy Garland - Put Your Arms Around Me, Honey (1949)

Listen to this. I promise you it will be stuck in your head for days. Especially after Van Johnson's quick ditty. Of course Judy kicks his butt. And you will love every moment. It's the power of Judy Garland.

You're welcome!

Modettes - White Mice (1979)

Don't be stupid, don't be limp. No girl likes to love a wimp...

I'm a sucker for great bass lines and this song has a really great one. Plus, the video is pretty kickass in all its VHS/blue screen glory.

Musical TMI

I don't care that you're listening to Katy Perry on Spotify.

I really don't.

But Facebook insists I should.

Well, fuck.

Post another photo of your sandwich/dog/baby.

Please.

And if the fires burn out...

My favorite Duran Duran song. I want to be in this crowd so badly. I dream of one day being surprised with tickets to see an intimate DD show like this.

Bow Wow Wow - Go Wild in the Country (1982)

I've been really, REALLY into Bow Wow Wow in the past. Brings back a lot of great memories from a couple of years ago. A friend and I were talking about our favorite bass players (back in the ancient days of myspace) and he sent me this video showcasing Leigh Gorman's amazing bass line.

I was hooked on Bow Wow Wow ever since. For a few months we both shared tons of music. I have a soft spot for people with odd music tastes like mine.

That's pretty much the best way to get me to love you for life.

(Note: The video cuts off at the end, but you get to see just how awesome this song is.)

Rammstein - Mein Land (2011)

I can listen to this song every day. Actually, I do! I'll be seeing these guys next April. I don't have to tell you that the wait is driving me crazyyyy! Last time I saw them was eleven years ago in Texas. I do hope one day to see them in Berlin.

Funny, silly video. Awesome song. The last minute just makes my panties desintegrate. I wanna party like that.

Anyone??

Devo - Speed Racer (1982)

"I've got brains and I like sex..."

If the only song you know is 'Whip It' kindly step back and turn around. The door's that way. ;)

Savage - Only You (1984)

Not much to say here. Simply beautiful.
